In reply to your letter of the 14th instant You. (25552) with regard to the question of proclaiming
a public holiday in Hongkong on the occasion of the
Funeral of the Emperor of Japan, I am directed by
Secretary Sir E. Grey to state, for the information
of Mr. Secretary Harcourt, that he has been in tele-
graphic communication on the subject with His
Majesty's Ambassador at Tokio, who sees no necessity
to adopt the suggestion put forward by the Japanese
Consul at Hongkong.
Sir E. Grey concurs in the view expressed by
Sir C. MacDonald.
